Most of my design work has been with the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) by way of semester long projects. The specifics of these can be found in the projects section of this site. Night of the Living Dead At
the ETC I have worked on three seperate and distinct design challenges.
My first was on the Night of the Living Dead Game Prototype. This was
a project aimed at a mass market appeal game involving George A. Romero's
horror film classic of the same name. Although it was for mass market,
my team attempted to weave more meaningful character interaction into
the gameplay. Gameplay revolved around getting fellow characters to trust
you as well as making decisions that could affect their lives. It was
a small step forward in this vein, but we feel we accomplished much more
than the mindless zombie slaying fest the game could have become. Elecronic Arts Human Resources - SimBenefits In the fall of 2004 I worked with Electronic Arts to create a prototype simulation to teach EA employees about their benefits. This was a project initiated by Rusty Rueff and Steve Seabolt at EA in hopes that their employees might make more informed choices when set with the daunting task of decided benefits options. The team focused on the 401(k) and Employee Stock Purchase Plan Options. I was lead designer for the project as well as an artist and GUI programmer. This is my current project at the ETC and includes rapid prototyping of a massive amount of gameplay ideas. The concept is that complexity in gameplay is not necessary for fun. Each member of the four person team designs and implements a game every 4 to 7 days based on a simple gameplay concept. Results are analyed and displayed on our public website. Outside Work Aside from ETc related design work, I am currently trying to publish several table games. My focus has been on board games and card games with a strong influence by recent Euro games. Please contact me if you would like to playtest my current game. |
